Director / Campus Pastor Position Description - Stetson Wesley Foundation

Position Summary

The Director/Campus Pastor of Stetson Wesley Foundation provides leadership for a United Methodist student-centered campus ministry grounded in hospitality, justice, leadership development, and spiritual formation. The Director oversees programming, student leadership, administration, fundraising, and external relationships, ensuring that students experience meaningful faith formation while the organization remains financially and operationally sustainable.

This position is designed to be flexible and scalable, with a minimum commitment of 15–20 hours per week and the opportunity to expand based on fundraising capacity.

Core Purpose of the Position

To oversee a student-led ministry of hospitality, justice, leadership development, faith formation, and worship so that students experience the healing, transforming love of God and grow as principled leaders for the church and the world.

Key Responsibilities

1. Student Leadership Development & Academic-Year Programming (≈ 10 hours)

The Director provides vision, oversight, and support for the student-led ministry throughout the academic year, including:

● Supervising and mentoring the student leadership team and residential student leaders

● Planning and overseeing academic-year programming, including weekly gatherings, special events, and retreats

● Supporting student leaders in hospitality, justice-oriented programming, outreach, and community building

● Coordinating leadership meetings and guiding students in vocational discernment

● Collaborating with students on communications and outreach to the campus community

2. Spiritual Leadership & Faith Formation (Included in core programming hours)

As Campus Pastor, the Director is responsible for the spiritual life of the community, including:

● Leading prayer and providing pastoral presence

● Preaching and leading worship services as appropriate

● Guiding Bible study and theological reflection

● Providing pastoral care and referral support for students

● Helping students explore faith, doubt, calling, and spiritual practices in an inclusive and welcoming environment

3. Recruitment & Community Building

The Director leads recruitment efforts for key ministry roles, including:

● Recruiting and onboarding student residents

● Recruiting and supporting volunteer student leaders

● Identifying, recruiting, and cultivating members of the Stetson Wesley Board of Directors

● Building leadership pipelines among students, alumni, and supporters

4. Administration & Organizational Oversight (≈ 5 hours)

In partnership with the Board of Directors, the Director oversees the administrative life of the nonprofit, including:

● Supervising part-time bookkeeper

● Ensuring sound financial and bookkeeping practices

● Overseeing communications with the Board

● Supporting stewardship of the building and property

● Maintaining compliance with nonprofit best practices

5. Fundraising & Development (Variable: 5+ hours)

Fundraising is the most flexible and variable component of the position and directly shapes the total weekly hours.

Baseline Fundraising Expectations (≈ 5 hours/week):

● Approximately six to eight church visits per year

● Monthly email communication with donors and supporters

● Ongoing relationship maintenance with alumni and local church supporters

● No preaching required for church visits at this level

Expanded Fundraising Role (Additional 5 to 10 hours/week)

● Active cultivation of individual donors

● Increased church engagement and external partnerships

● Grant writing and major gift development

● Strategic fundraising growth that may allow the position to expand beyond 20 hours

An experienced fundraiser who is able to secure additional financial support may grow the position to 25 or more hours per week, contingent upon funds raised to support the additional salary commitment.

On-Call Availability

While this position is part-time, it carries a limited on-call component consistent with pastoral leadership and residential ministry oversight. The Director is expected to maintain reasonable availability by phone or text for urgent student matters, such as personal crises or significant conflicts between housemates. Students are encouraged to schedule routine pastoral care conversations during regular business hours; however, occasional after-hours responsiveness may be necessary. Additionally, the Director may need to respond to intermittent facility-related concerns (e.g., water leaks or HVAC outages) that require timely attention. Such situations are not frequent but are an understood aspect of the role’s responsibility for student well-being and property oversight.

Relationships & External Partnerships

The Director builds and maintains strong relationships with:

● Local United Methodist churches and clergy

● Alumni and community supporters

● Board members and prospective board leaders
